Parenting Frustrations

I had a whole huge long post here about some rough spots I'm going through right now, but I deleted it because I don't want anyone to get the wrong idea. My kids are wonderful. They are polite, smart, funny, healthy, and NORMAL kids. They aren't perfect and I struggle to find the best way to teach them right from wrong, but I think that's part of being a parent.

Oy. I don't know what to tell you. Aeryn started lying at the start of this school year and was doing the whole "I don't know" thing allllll the time. Regular time outs didn't work either and she has so many toys that taking things away was ridiculous. I had time outs start at 10 minutes and doubled the time each time she lied again. Finally after sitting in the hallway for an hour and missing a sunny afternoon playing with her friends she started to get the point. I'm sure that's no help whatsoever to you. Hopefully this doesn't stay an issue for long. There is always my friend in Colorado who took her son to the jailhouse and had the cops put him in a holding cell while she talked to him about where lying/stealing would get him... though I think that's too extreme at this age :)
Best of luck!

thank you for suggesting and then shooting down the idea of withdrawal of love... love isn't a privilege or a weapon... it's a fact.

I do, however (and obviously... I don't have kids so what do I know) think the idea of taking away her jewelery. Even the part about taking away all her toys. I'd find a way to make SURE she doesn't play with Tori and Tori's toys... It is, in theory, two wrongs attempting to make a right, but it will (hopefully) give her some empathy... to know what it's like to have her things taken away... it's not a good feeling.
I feel your frustration... just reading this made me want to stomp my feet, shake my fists, and clench my teeth... :( Good luck...
